The Dr fuhrman nutritarian diet is an excellent anti-aging diet because of its moisturizing and antioxidant effects. This diet will allow you to eat according to your appetite (you don’t need to count calories) but a good choice of food, far from the refined food and that will disturb your health! simply it is a healthy diet!
Then, fill your plate little by little with vegetables and fruits rich in nutrients until you reach 50% of vegetables in your plate.

What is a nutritarian diet?

The nutritarian diet is a diet rich in good nutrients, and less food with empty calories (Empty calories are any food that is refined and does not contain good nutritional value).
The nutritarian diet means the equation of : H = N/C which means: Health is the equivalent of one good nutrient in each calorie.

What is the origin of the nutritarian diet?

Dr. Joel Fuhrman, after many years of research, coined the term “nutritarian” for his diet rich in essential nutrients. He is an experienced nutrition writer and physician

The basics of nutritarian diet

  • The nutritional diet is based on certain principles that Dr. Fuhrman cited to achieve successful nutritarian eating:
Your plate must always have priority to vegetables, you can get up to 50%.
  • Red meat and all processed foods should be limited or even avoided. You should consume about only 5% per day.
  • In addition to vegetables, you should supplement your plate with legumes and seeds which are very rich in vitamins and minerals.you can go up to 30%.
  • As a source of good fat and omega 3, avocado and nuts but in reasonable quantities should also be present in your plate.
  • this is the special pyramid of dr fuhrman.

When you focus on more nutrient rich foods you decrease the amount of processed and packaged foods, sweets, white flour, fast foods and animal products.

How to follow the Nutritarian diet?

Quite simply, every calorie you consume must contain a good nutrient! it’s easy.

In this context:

  • you must limit your purchases and avoid any refined industrial foods with additives.
  • While the Nutritarian Diet doesn’t limit your caloric intake, it does set a percentage of total calories that each food group should provide per day:
  • Vegetables (30-60%). You can eat unlimited amounts of vegetables, although raw vegetables should make up at least half of your total vegetable intake each day. This category excludes potatoes.
  • Fruits: You are supposed to eat at least 3-5 servings of fresh fruit each day.
  • Beans and other legumes: This equals at least 1/2 cup (85 grams) per day.
  • Nuts are richs in good nutrients but also high in calories so don’t be fooled if you’re obese! you can eat 3 nuts a day, and this is enough to provide you with good nutrients and good fats such as omega 3, especially beneficial for pregnant women.
  • If you are on this diet for weight loss, limit cooked starches to 1 cup (150-325 grams) per day.
  • For red meat, it is to be limited but not prohibited! You can consume up to 225g per week.
  • Limit processed foods : This category includes tofu, tempeh, and coarsely ground or sprouted whole grain breads and cereals.
  • Reduce salt intake to less than 1000 mg per day.
  • Processed foods, refined carbohydrates, oils, sugar, soft drinks, fruit drinks or juices, white flour and all factory-farmed animal products are largely banned.

It is necessary to bring cereal foods (bread, pasta, rice, etc.), potatoes or pulses to each meal, favoring whole cereals.
so I do not recommend the nutritarian diet for athletes.

the Nutritarian diet can lower your cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure, and it can increase your life expectancy and help you fight chronic diseases.

However, the strict guidelines promoted by this diet can make it difficult to stick to over the long term.

eating a nutritarian diet for me is very healthy. I thank dr fuhrman for this healthy food way.
The absence of meat can cause you a vitamin B12 and protein deficiency, so always check up to check if you are not deficient or ask your doctor if it is necessary to supplement.

The nutritarian diet and weight loss?

This diet promises you to lose large amounts of weight in a very short period of time usually averaging 3.3 pounds per week.

The problem here is that research shows that such severe caloric restriction can slow down your metabolism and trigger muscle loss. It can also promote hunger and increase the risk that you will gain back all your lost weight, if not more.

Nutritarian diet Meal plan

Meals should be divided into 3 essential meals per day, and a snack according to your eating habits, and your current weight (this differs from your degree of overweight).

The Nutritarian Diet is a primarily plant-based, gluten-free, low-salt, low-fat diet. In addition to promoting weight loss, it promises to slow aging, prevent and reverse various chronic diseases, and help you live longer.

This diet  favors whole, minimally processed foods, especially fresh vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts and seeds.

Before embarking on the Nutritarian diet, it should be noted that this type of diet is quite restrictive. In fact, people who have already applied it have said that this diet is a bit difficult to follow.

Like any diet, it requires the restriction of the consumption of certain foods. However, the deprivations are necessary to be healthy and eat a balanced diet.
